Biography

Stefania Boccia is Full professor of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health at UCSC and Responsible for the Research Line on Health Care sustainability and Personalized medicine at IRCCS "Fondazione Policlinico A. Gemelli" (FPG) in Rome.

She is the Director of the Section of Hygiene of the Department of Health Science and Public Health of UCSC and President of the Public Health Epidemiology Section of European Public Health Associations (EUPHA).

She is member of the Ethical Committee at the FPG.

From 2016 -to 2018 she was Adjunct Professor at the Mount Sinai Medical School, New York.

In 2018 she founded the spin-off “Vihtali srl” (Value In Health Technology and Academy for Leadership & Innovation) at UCSC.

In 2021she has been nominated European Climate Pact Ambassador from the European Commission.

In 2021 she has been nominated as Italian Expert Representative for the Italian Ministry of Health for the EU project.

Her main research interests concern personalized medicine policies in Italy and internationally, and the interaction between genetic and environmental factors in the risk and prognosis of gastric and head and neck cancer. In the past years she coordinated the “Personalized PREvention of Chronic Diseases” project (PRECeDI, EU-H2020 MSCA- RISE), for which she obtained a recognition from the ICPerMed Consortium,

Currently she coordinates the EU project titled “European network staff eXchange for integrAting precision health in the health Care sysTems” (ExACT) funded by the European Commssion (EC) within the H2020 Marie-Slodowska Curie projects (MSCA-RISE).

She is currently partner of the following projects funded by the EC:

  • Integrating China in the International Consortium for Personalised Medicine (IC2PerMed, CSA) as member of the Coordinating group
  • ICM (Thomas Jefferson University, Erasmus +, Grant KA107) as member of the coordinating group
  • Joint Action, Innovative Partnership for Action Against Cancer Joint Action (IPAAC, 3rd Health Programme) as Subcontractor of the Italian NIH
  • Improved methods and Actionable Tools for enhancing Health Technology Assessment (IMPACT-HTA), Member of the working group for UCSC of the H2020 project
  • Member State representative of the two COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Actions titled Determinants of Physical Activities in Settings"(DE-PASS) and Towards an International Network for Evidence-based Research in Clinical Health Research” (EVBRES).

Associate Editor of European Journal of Public Health, European Journal of Epidemiology. Advisory Board Member of the Lancet Regional Health- Europe. 

Author and co-author of 240 scientific publications; H index (Scopus): 42; no. citations= 6968.
